Quiksilver
This advertisement for Quicksilver was actually two scenes, one throwing the dynamite into the urban river and the other surfing. It was taken on a high quality camera but then it was made mobile-quality purposely so it looked like it was taken on a phone. They could've kept it clean-cut, but along with their grunge feel and hand-made look they edited the video to be less quality and fits with the brand perfectly. It also makes it look real, and one video, rather than edited.
More advertisements from Quiksilver
More often than not Quiksilver advertise the sport rather than their brand, as they want to associate themselves with the sport. Obviously the logo and their brand name/clothing are in the picture, but the main focus point is the (in this case) surfing. The board and the wave both indicate surfing and although branded, it's not in your face and they are a small part of the picture.
Still accosiating themselves with the sea, they have used different fish to incorporate their jeans onto it but it's the colour they're advertising.
Quiksilver want to be known for board sports, and so I think the whole using the advertisements as a means to do the activities such a ramp to skate on, and a rail. Both of which skateboarders use every day and so immediately they connect with the advertising.
Adidas
Whilst researching Adidas advertising I noticed they based a lot of their advertising on just the logo, as the logo is well-known and if you see that you immediately know what it is. They use some clever ways to show this.
Another popular method with Adidas as it's a sport brand is to associate itself with sport. From gym workouts to football boots, etc.
