Brochures
I looked into competitors surf/skate brochures such as Quiksilver to have a look at the kind of colour, and photographs they use to advertise their products. I found that with a lot of my research i found that they used natural, neutral colours such as blue and green. They also used natural surfaces like with these images used the back of a skateboard which had a wood effect. This reflects the outdoor activities the products are for. I like this effect and i think it is something that i want to look into.
Websites & Online Lookbooks
I looked at competitors websites as well with brands such as O'Neil and Fatface, i found that similar to the brochures they also used natural colours such as blues and greens. They show photographs of nature such as on the beach, or on a mountain. And also show people doing activities and sports, or include fashion shots of the clothes. I could use these images for inspiration such as the fashion shots, and look into the kind of natural poses that they do. Another thing that i found with all websites was that they all included links to their Facebook/Twitter page or forums, where people could get involved. This is a really positive way of targeting the younger part of the audience, which is something that we could do. As at the moment the Dece website and Facebook/Twitter page are inactive or have hardly any followers. This is something that needs to be drastically changes to improve awareness of the brand, this is what we can talk more about in the social media strategy.
Logo Design
I looked into competitors logos to see the kind of layout and format they used, i found that the majority of them used bold colours such as red, black and white. This is effective as they really stand out and are recognisable as a brand.
Text Experimentation
I experimented with different text that could go into the logo, and looked at using the colour scheme of blue and green which we decided to use as a group.
Rita Fuerstenau
I found these booklets by Rita Fuerstenau and i thought they were a good format for booklets, i also really like the colour scheme and how she has used natural flowers and leaves. Which is something i could look into when creating my brochures and look at something similar to reflect the natural outdoor activities.
